Education for Excellence 2024 Update
As we dive deeper into the fall season of gratitude, AAPASD is honoring those who have made a remarkable impact on the educational journeys of students and TPHS. Following the success of last year’s Education Excellence Award at CCA, AAPASD is thrilled to announce that TPHS will be the focus of the 2024-25 school year’s accolades.
We invite all students and TPHS alumni to participate in the nomination process, which is vital to recognizing the incredible dedication and expertise of our teachers and educators who have nurtured the growth and curiosity of students in our community. By nominating a teacher, not only do you show your appreciation and celebrate their contributions to society, but you are also entered into AAPASD’s weekly raffle for a chance to win a gift card to OMOMO or Starbucks.
To submit a nomination, please use the link provided below. AAPASD looks forward to your participation in acknowledging the remarkable contributions of TPHS educators! https://forms.gle/3RD1rRw7gpXVDyi48

President's Volunteer Service Award Ceremony
On Sunday of October 6th, SLC hosted the ceremony to award members and leaders with the bronze, silver, and gold medals for their volunteer work by the President’s Volunteer Service Award(PVSA). The PVSA was implemented in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize volunteers’ work in America, which continues today. Many thanks to those SLC volunteers who helped better the world! Please go to SLC’s website to learn more about the volunteering events and how to earn volunteer hours.
Solutions for Change Kid-Zone
By Cathy Ji
On Thursday, October 24th, SLC students volunteered as a team for the Solutions For Change KidZone initiative. As a nonprofit organization centered in San Diego, Solutions for Change offers sustainable and innovative assistance to homeless families through their housing and reintegration programs. Kid-Zone, a weekly event where Solutions graduates and current members bring their children to the Calvary Chapel Vista Church, and volunteers help look after them for the evening.
Our Student Leadership Club volunteers arrived early at 5:30 PM to help set up, organizing the sign-in sheet for arriving parents, and led each child to the playground, where they spent the first hour. Donning signature blue shirts, each volunteer looked after multiple students of varying ages, taking care to make sure that they did not hurt themselves or run off.
Next, as dinner time grew near, the students led the children to wash their hands, and everyone lined up to enjoy sandwiches, noodles, pumpkin-shaped tangerines, and lemonade!
The KidZone program offers a safe and nurturing space for children, and they were led in fun developmental activities throughout the evening. After dinner, volunteers led a group of kids in coloring and writing thank-you notes with stickers and colorful markers, as another continued to play games on the playground. Near the end of the night, SLC volunteers helped clean up tables, brought out garbage, vacuumed in the hallways, and sent each joyful child home to their families.
Let’s commend our volunteers for their amazing, diligent efforts and maturity despite their young ages!
