Restoration
1/12/25

On January 12th, thirteen SLC members gathered at Black Mountain Open Space Park for the year's first restoration event. They split into two groups, with one watering native plants at the main site and the other focusing on dethatching along the Awhee Trail. Dethatching involves removing excess dead grasses and organic material, which helps improve nutrient absorption in the soil.
Working in straight lines down the hillside, members piled the removed grasses into separate heaps, which will later be collected by other volunteers from the organization. By the end of the event, they had cleared a significant section of the trail, making way for future projects in the area.
