Restoration

4/21/24

On April 21st, 2024, club members from the AAPASD Student Leadership Club collaborated with the Friends of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve (FLPCP) organization in their recent habitat  restoration event. The volunteers gathered in Black Mountain Open Space Park, where they spent the majority of their time planting and watering new native plant species with the goal of promoting the growth of a new, flourishing habitat.

Under the guidance of another volunteer, Jake, one of the organization’s planting leaders, volunteers were given instructions on how to properly plant, which consisted of digging an appropriately sized hole, adding a copious amount of water, and properly patting down the soil to ensure optimal growth. Together, volunteers also made sure to place plant protectors around new plants to protect them from interference from animals. And finally, volunteers went around watering plants from previous restoration events to help facilitate their future growth. Overall, it was a very successful event and the volunteers are looking forward to the next restoration event!
