Restoration

On November 17th, SLC club members (the largest group yet!) returned to the Black Mountain restoration site to participate in cactus planting and the usual watering activities with the Friends of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve (FLPCP) organization.
First, the volunteers started by making their way through the Ahwee Trail to an area of land that had previously been cleared in order to plant some cactus pads under the leadership of Del. The volunteers worked in groups to carefully dig, plant, and water new cactus pads in the area, planting around 50 new cacti.
After finishing up with the pads, the volunteers headed back to the regular restoration site to water the nearby plants. Thanks to how many volunteers attended the event, watering only took around 15 minutes before all the water was exhausted.
During this time, Del also showed the volunteers a new plant protector he had been working on which was constructed out of willow plants, making it a more sustainable alternative for the typical plastic plant protectors that volunteers used previously.
Overall, this was a very successful restoration event and the volunteers look forward to participating in future events to help benefit their community.
